A Written Response To Eugene Bigboy
I wasn't going to even acknowledge or post the Bigboy campaign letter which was littered across
the reservation last weekend. However, after receiving such a huge response, I decided I would at
the very least respond to some concerns the Bigboy campaign has brought up. I refuse to post this
letter in its entirety, as the majority of its contents are irrelevant to the issues and problems facing
the Bad River Nation. Aside from the predictable, negative, Bigboy political hubbub, there were four
questions Mr. Bigboy brought up in his letter I would like to discuss.
#1. Can we as a tribe entrust our future to someone that has no experience as a tribal
council member?
First off, Mr. Bigboy, you have been entrusted with our future. You took an oath to uphold and
preserve our Constitution and the rights of each and every citizen of our great Nation. During your
administration how many times have you misrepresented and re-written our Constitution to benefit
your own agendas? You have trampled on the civil rights of the people of Bad River by invoking the
State of Emergency Act. This act criminalized the citizen's right to peacefully assemble and protest
your raping of the Constitution, your hijacking of our Tribal Government, and your political poisoning
of our Tribal Court system & filing of an injunction to stop your removal of office. Your illegal
mortgaging of our priceless Tribal lands, your signing and support of detrimental intergovernmental
agreements (Beloit Casino for one), your participation of damaging contractual agreements
(Niizhoo-Akiing) have pretty much ensured community instability and the financial demise of our
Nation. My question to you, Eugene Bigboy is; How can we entrust you with the future of our
people?
#2. Can we as a tribe afford to entrust our gaming status to a person that does not have
the knowledge to negotiate our gaming compacts?
Mr. Bigboy, thanks to your administration's frivolous spending and mismanagement of our Tribal
funds, we are lucky if we can afford much of anything at this point. Our Tribe's financial status is at
an earth shattering low and as far as our gaming status is concerned, its amazing we still have one.
Your illegal signing of the Beloit Casino contract has put our Tribe at serious risk of losing
everything we own. Our homelands continue to be used as collateral along with our current casino in
Bad River. If we continue under your dictatorship, I fear we are at risk of losing everything we hold
dear. Most certainly if your "negotiating" skills were up to snuff, we would not be in such a scary
predicament.
#3. Do you as an individual have the faith in my opponent to send him to Washington DC
to discuss hard issues with the federal government?
Speaking of trips Eugene, how many mini-vacations have you taken under the guise of business
trips paid for by the Tribe? As far as meetings in Washington, isn't that what you illegally paid
business lobbyist Jeff Taylor over $260,000 for? Aside from your secret meetings in Beloit, or a trip
here and there to Vegas, your usual M.O. is to send a non-tribal member (tribal atty, or Jeff Taylor)
to represent our people in dealing with these "hard issues".
#4. Do you as an individual have the faith in my opponent to put our future as a tribe in
his inexperienced hands?
First off, rephrasing your first question will not get you a different answer, but I will try. Mr. Bigboy,
You have sabotaged our government through manipulation of our Constitution and muting the voice
of our people through blackmail and scare tactics. You have traded our right to a better future to
promote your own agendas and the further advancement of your family. Many good people have
lost their jobs or rights to public services for voicing their feelings and speaking up for what is right.
You have created a menacing dictatorship that operates in secret, behind closed doors. A
democracy is supposed to be a government for the people and by the people. You have purposely
silenced the voice of our nation through secret meetings and illegal poll votes, and continually sign
illegal contracts not directed by the council. These illegal contracts and unconstitutional ordinances
have placed our homelands and current enterprises at risk and have left our people in oppression.
These are not accusations, these are acts you have committed and are proven through detailed
documentation and video footage contained on this website. Again, my question to you Eugene
Bigboy is; How can we entrust you with our future?
Sincerely,
Tom Deragon Jr.
