If, for instance, one is to be found guilty of a
misdemeanor or a felony involving dishonesty,
while serving on the Tribal Council, it is clearly a
logical presumption that one cannot run for any
position on the Tribal Council if such
Misdemeanors or Felonies existed prior to any
General Election.  It  is, however, illogical to think
one who has a Misdemeanor or Felony Record
involving dishonesty must first be placed on the
Tribal Council through a general election to be
deemed vacated by the Tribal Council for the
existence of Misdemeanor or Felony Convictions.
As a sworn officer of Bad River Tribal Court, that
is in fact my position.  I believe the Election

letter of the law in Article V of our constitution.

others believed that you would Censor it, it was
placed on Facebook for half of Odanah to see,
who are Friends on my Facebook.  Glad theres
still one place in America where free speech is
still respected and upheld. I will have to make
sure that your unwillingness to submit what I sent
to you, is noted by myself and others in Odanah.
All respect I had for you and your site here just
went out the window.  If something so
meaningless is Censored, what would one do in
an Elected position for Council.  HMMMMM?
There your thoughts are posted Wes. Sorry it
took three days, but I have been sort of busy
with the campaign. I was also under the
impression that your mother did not want this
posted just yet, as she is running for the
Vice-Chair seat as a write-in (?) and didn't want
to make waves. However, now that the cat is
out of the bag, I guess this dilemma is moot.
So to sum this up, we have a candidate who's
eligibility is questioned because of a previous
felony conviction. This candidate is on the
ballot for Vice-Chair. You feel this candidate
should be removed from the ballot and the next
alternate should take her place on the ballot.
When in doubt, we must look to and uphold our
Constitution, as I have always said; there
shouldn't be any gray areas , where the
answers to what we seek are written in black
and white.
The challenge now will be how our Constitution
is interpreted in this instance. When we
interpret our written law, we have to proceed
with caution. Historically we have seen the
damage inflicted on our Nation when we try to
look at our Constitution from a
three-dimensional standpoint and "interpret".
A sound Nation must always be
Constitutionally focused in order to serve
Democracy and promote Community tranquility.
Its just a bad deal all around when we stray
from our written law. I assume our Tribal Legal
Department will weigh in and  interpret. I also
assume our Election Committee will uphold this
interpretation and ultimately uphold our
Constitution as sworn. I guess we have to put
faith in the system and advocate adherence of
our Constitution. On the flipside, we as Citizens
must always hold our government accountable
for its actions.
I must say, I do take great offense to your
statements towards me personally. This
website was founded with the premise of
promoting information to the people. An
informed citizen is essential to a working
Democracy. When this site was first
established, our Nation was in turmoil and
Citizen dissenssion was the norm. This site
wasn't a political movement, but a "people
movement" . We as citizens need to get active,
go to meetings, stay informed, and voice our
opinions to our elected officials.
A lot of work goes into this site. I pay out of my
own pocket to keep this site up. I don't get any
money for the work I do. What I hope for and
what I get back from my hard work is worth
more than money, and that is promoting
thought and vision to my people.
I feel the needs of our people and look at our
tribal revenue. I know our needs far surpass
whatever revenue we generate. I get it. Our
unemployment crisis, I get it. I am also
unemployed and still handing my applications in
to no avail. When you go to the store to buy
milk and bread and you only have enough
money for either or, I get it. When you're living
in crowded conditions and can't obtain better
housing, I get it. When we have a bad
manoomin harvest, my cupboard is empty too.
I am just a regular guy trying to make a
difference. I'm trying to run a clean campaign
with a clear message, without any mud-slinging.
I am not a politician, I'm an activist. I do what I
say, and I say what I do. Our Nation doesn't
need politicians, we need DOers.
If I lost your vote, I apologize. I was under the
assumption your mother didn't want this posted
and you two had that understanding. I speak
with my mother on a daily basis and our lines of
communication are always open, so I'm sorry if
I took that for granted.
In any event, the beans are spilled and your
voice is heard and open for debate. Even if I
don't have your support, please get out and
vote. The worst thing you can do besides not
vote for me, is to not vote at all. Miigwetch for
your contributions Wes.

To start with, EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT MY
RECORD LOOKS LIKE "old man", and as I told
Sandy Bender, that is nothing new to anyone and
nor do I attempt to hide that fact, all quite old
news.   So retract your claws now.   Secondly, I
dont believe Sandy Bender should be REMOVED
from the ballot, but I do believe our Tribal Council
needs to clarify that particular issue and clarify it
on paper for everyone to see. We wouldnt want
someone to run with a record in some other
upcoming election and have someone(including
sitting tribal council) decide otherwise that this
person just isnt liked as well as the last person so
lets use this part of Article V against him/her.  Our
tribe has been notoriously known for changing the
rules to fit the person.  As for the "old man", I will
tell you as I told my mother, and as I put on my
Facebook days ago, I support two candidates for
Vice Chair, and thats Sandy Bender and Jan Smart.
As I also told my mother and my cousins, I dont
prescribe to the fact that Sandy cant do any more
good in her life because she messed up years ago,
I dont believe that she is not redeemable, thats
how many would like to feel about me, but thats ok.
I can live without them in my life, they offer
nothing to me.  I actually hope that Article V is
defined to meet the rules that a person classified
with a felony or misdemeanor can run for any Tribal
Council position.  I have been out of prison a long
time now.  Since I am not a drunk or a chronic dope
addict, and I actually maintain a lifestyle
surrounded by education, I usually come under
attack by those who hate that about me.  Many
there in Odanah wished I would just return there.
Sorry!!! Not going to happen again in this lifetime.
We all have our own thoughts and opinions.
We also have the Constitutional right to
express these thoughts and opinions.
Democracy succeeds when the culmination of
several varying ideas and opinions births even
one idea which improves the quality of life for
our people. However, we must challenge
ourselves to present our ideas with a tactful
mannerism and avoid trampling others to get
our message across. I spoke earlier about
treating each other more 'human'. We have so
much to gain by treating each other better, with
a common decency and respect. The old ways
of politics is not working, so it is on us to make
the change. I believe we can do it. I believe in
every single one of you. I believe at the end of
the day, we all want our Nation to succeed and
our people to prosper. If we move forward with
this notion and bring our talents to the table,
and promote independent thought, we can and
will achieve great things.

move on as a write in candidate because I don't
think it's a good idea to have a person who
handles grants and contracts accounting sit on the
council The other candidate on the ballot has not
made any changes while in his terms He rarely
speaks.
I wasn't searching for information about any
candidate that may have reasons to not be on the
ballot. I asked to have my campaign letter put on
this website .  I was later informed that you were
advised not to put other campaign letters. I left the
subject alone. my son is simply responding to the
statement in atricle 5
I am uncomfortable with old man's respose that my
son's info should be checked. Why ? because he
questions the voting procedures about a felony. I
understood he qwas questioning the procedures
of the election committes role to address the issue.
Sounds like old man wants to sling some mud
because someone has an opinion about the
unclear election practices here in Bad River. I
don't think it's me thats afraid of making waves.
And I did not go looking for any information on
anyone.
Since the caucus I have continued to hand out
letters whenever I see a voter. I spend no time
digging for smear info on anyone. I will write in as
a candidate for vice chair. I realize I do not have a
lot of support.whatever votes I get I want to get
because they are convinced I will be an advocate
for change.
I hear what you're saying Jan. However the
way these events transpired aren't entirely
accurate. In all actuality, about a week or so
after the caucus, you had initiated a debate
regarding the eligibility of a certain candidate.
You had been advised by individuals you
spoke with, that this was a matter for you to
bring before the appropriate channels and
these individuals were going to be staying out
of this, as this is an issue for our officials to
interpret and decide.
A few days ago your son sent me an email
regarding this topic, at which time you had
expressed maybe it wouldn't be such a good
idea for it to be published (these are in fact the
'waves' in mention). I was under the
impression you were both on the same page
and I did not post the email, out of respect. I
most certainly did not anticipate such a
backlash, where my integrity and character
would be called into question over this. If any
of you felt this was mishandled on my part, I do
sincerely apologize.
In regard to posting your campaign letter, you
had come to me, merely three days before the
caucus and asked if I would post your
literature. At that time I had told you I was
having difficulty converting files to PDF, as my
trial software had expired and I was limited as
far as alternative software and funding for
upgrades were concerned. At that point I was
told to 'just re-type it'. With three days before
the caucus, busy running my own campaign, I
was under heavy time constraints. Ultimately, I
did recieve your PDF file a day and a half later,
however there wasn't enough time to publish it.
Not only was file conversion the issue, but also
your late announcement and decision to run
for Vice-Chair instead of Jr. Council Member.
This put me in an ethical quandary because I
had already promised support elsewhere,
before you changed your mind and decided to
run for Vice-Chair at the last minute.
This uncomfortable situation ultimately led to
my decision to not open the website up to a
forum for all the candidates, as I did last year. I
felt that as a candidate for office, it would be
improper of me to have campaign literature of
other candidates on a privately owned website.
My fear was that this may create 'voter
confusion' and assumptions of 'political
allegiances' might be misinterpreted, with
regard to which candidates may or may not
choose to utilize the website. Once again, I
sincerely apologize if you felt I mishandled this.
However, this decision was mine.
Lastly, I refuse to be the 'fall guy' in your
Vice-Chair debate, as I didn't bring this topic up.
It was your son that 'posted this debate all over
Facebook for half of Odanah to see.' Now my
integrity is being attacked by your son because
I chose to honor your request as a fellow
candidate and a friend of my mothers. If your
son was looking for any insight from me in this
debate, he got it. It is my stance that we have a
Legal Department and an Election Committee
that are sworn to uphold our Constitution. We
do have a system in place and all we can do is
have faith in this system. This is all I will say on
this and that's all there really is to say. I don't
know if the candidate in question even has a
felony. I am not running for that office, I am
running for Tribal Secretary. My time and
energy remains focused in those regards, and I
am trying to keep the focus on myself, as any
candidate running a good campaign should.
I apologize if I'm being so open and candid, but
I am not one to play tippy-toe around issues.
When I believe in something, I get up and do.
Straight talk comes easy to me, because I
speak from my heart.
Wesconn Media wrote:
I am a linguistics professional.  Here are some
simple widely known facts.  Of the 6000 to 6800
languages known today that are spoken
throughout the world, in the next 50 years, the
mathematical statistics show that 50% of those will
be extinct.  Not the race of people that speak
them, but the language will in fact be dead.  A
culture can be extinct and still have survivors of a
race.
Another widely known fact:  Your culture is
embedded within the very root sounds of your
native language, ours being Ojibwe.  Knowing that
fact, one should also know that if you lose your
language you will in fact be losing over 98 percent
of your entire culture.  All one will really have left
is just  a powwow and even then, you may just
have to import a native speaker from elsewhere
to do an invocation.  A nation is marked for
complete collapse based upon the number of
child speakers it is putting out, not based upon
the amount of fluent speakers it now has.  I am not
into Research and cataloging, I am all about
saving and revitalization as quickly as possible.
The Maidu Nation out near Concord CA, not too far
from where I live, have only 3 First Speakers left
in the entire nation.

So Why am I telling you all of these grim outcomes
and prospects?  For one, I simply care.  Two, for
years I have tried to bring back and revitalize the
Ojibwe Language in Bad River, and not once have
I ever had one single person on our Tribal Council
ever stand up in defense of the Ojibwe Language,
the preservation and survival of our doing what
we do as Ojibwe people depends upon it.  To run
a sweat, to talk at Big Drum, at Midewiwin
Ceremonies, to fill a pipe, to speak at someone’s
funeral and send them off the right way, to talk for
your food you put down in the woods or in the
river or on the lake.  I really can go on and on but I
am not home for a reason.   I won’t be home until
after my PhD is finished in Cognitive Linguistics.
Who at home in this election or who currently sits
on the council will speak up…….stand up……. be
proud and defend (to your death if you have to)
your language that has been stifled and held back
for so long by those who don’t really care?  Are
any of those sitting on the council among that
continuing group who could care less one way or
another?  How about those of you who are
running in the upcoming General Election, do you
care less one way or another?  If none of you do,
then just what do you plan on doing about it?
Will anyone in Odanah stand up and defend it?  I
know my grandpa Fred would have,  and I know
your grandmas and grandpas who grew up in the
company farm would have defended today if they
were here.  I sure hope someone listens, for the
sake of Bad Rivers Cultural Existence.
Wesley Francis Connors
Very well put Wes. I don't believe the problem
is so much lack of caring amonst the Nation, as
it is lack of informative guidance. Which is
interesting, as the promotion and preservation
of our Culture is outlined in the Bylaws of our
Constitution, Article VI. I know how to speak a
little of our Native tongue, but not as much as I
would like to or should. I know this from what
was taught to me by my Grandma and from my
schooling as a youth. I remember back in High
School my teachers were; Dee Bainbridge
(Bayfield) and Bev Gouge (LCO). I also learned
quite a bit of the basics through our Head Start
Program. I know as a father, I teach my
children what I do know of our history and
Culture, and also what I have retained of our
language. As a Candidate, I also support any
instructional wisdom (including our
language)we can provide for our people. I can
remember several months ago, one of our
youth made a presentation to Council and
spoke completely in our Native language. Off
the top of my head, I can't recall her name (I
would have to look back in my notes), but I
was completely blown away by her
presentation, as I'm sure everyone in
attendance was. So I know we have people
here (including our young people)that pick the
ball up and continue on in this respect. But I
hear you, I think we as a Tribe could do more
as far as promoting our language through
education. Miigwetch for the insight Wes.

I find it very difficult for me to be submitting a

On your website you have posted the 2010
Absentee Ballet information.  How did you get this
information so fast when the peeps on the rez
and off the rez weren't even given the notice.
Strange isn't it...is this so called website of yours
really for the PEOPLE or for certain people.  Your
so silent on how you get your information...why ?

Well that was just one questions...my other is why
is your Tribal Chairman Wiggins getting involved
in the ad hoc committee n election committee ??
Does anyone on that committee have any morals
for the tribe and the people.  READ THE RULES
PEOPLE.  The Tribal Chairman is not to be
involved in any aspect of the election.

Third question...why are the people in Odanah
allowing the Tribal Chairman to CHANGE THE
BALLOT FOR A SECOND TIME.  Who does Wiggins
think he is ? And why is the election committee
allowing such terrible actions to be carried out !!!
Like I said early READ THE RULES...or were they
changed to without notice.

The election hasn't even happened yet and it's
already a legal issue...get a grip everyone. Rules,
policy n procedures and the constitution are to be
followed...Bad River is looking like the biggest
joke in Indian Country !!!!

Oh and last but not least...what happened on the
lake road ? who got caught with or  doing what
???

It's all out there in the  community...
Well, with regards to how I obtain my
information... I read postings, go to Council
Meetings, and ask questions... you know
exercise my Constitutional Rights? The
internet has proven to be a useful tool in this
endeavor also.

The Absentee Ballot information was posted
on the new tribal website, which I have a link
to. It was posted on the 21st of September and
in all actuality, it was posted over five days late.
The notice was posted the next day in the Daily
Press... So I never recieved it any earlier than
anyone else.

I'm not really following your comment as to the
website being for only certain people? Anyone
who has access to the world wide web can
read the content...

The Tribal Council took actions (as a whole) in
attempts to preserve the integrity of the
election. There were two issues in which the
Committee broke the election rules. #1. the late
posting and #2. the mis-wording of the late
posting... you can read all about it in my
meeting summary posted last week, on the
main page. Since you sound like a 'stickler' for
the rules, I'm sure you realize the Council has
full authority over all sub-committees, per the
Constitution. While no Constitutional laws
have been broken, election rules were... and
COUNCIL TOOK ACTION. Whether it was the
right one, or the wrong one.. is open to public
opinion and debate.

I have no idea what you're talking about,
regarding ballot changing (twice?). As far as I
know the ballots haven't even been printed yet.

like OMG, no I haven't heard what happened
on the lake road... gossip is so high school.

Miigwetch for reading.. Don't forget to vote!

crisis money. they are told that they have to pay
the crisis money back and then it goes back into a

chairman has setup. there is a reason the old way
was setup the way it was, it is because this money
goes under the community donations part of the
tribe's budget. this money is set aside to be spent
on community donations crisis money. there are
grant moneys given for this part of the tribe's
budget. if we don't spend it all we get less grant
moneys next year, so it makes sense that we
shouldn' t have to pay it back and the people that
need crisis money don't have money to begin with
to pay it back. this is also why this is budgeted as
community donation. so where does the payback
money go? it goes into the general account, the

some tribe or another thoughout the world...?
We have many nations. I have tried to instill a
sense of love and appreciation for not only our
own but others backgrounds and the rich history
that is attached to each. In schools, the
responsibility falls on the teachers/mentors to
set an example of the same high standard. But
alas it seems that complacency has set in on just
about every subject. Our community of
difference is fortunate; we all stand to learn so
much from eachother. When different heritages
and relationships are valued and fostered with
care, the fabric of our lives has the potential to
be colorful and inspiring. My suggestion to my
daughter on this day at school; if kids are going
to single themselves or others out, and as I
sensed the climbing tension throughout that
week, I suggested she wear a rainbow of colors
to celebrate the diversity of all nations come
together. As a mother of a son and daughter who
do not rightfully or officially get to celebrate their
own native heritage, I encourage them to
embrace the spiritual and the native friends they
have, I am proud that they set an example to be
kind and acceptant. Instead of a violence
awareness seminar in the month of December
(which is good too) but, wouldn't it be more
beneficial if we had a seminar on Differences and
Acceptance? Would our children benefit more
from learning how to create some good from our
differences, instead of hearing how to deal with
violence? It's a case of girls on one side of the
gym and boys on the other...who's gonna put the
music and a smile on, ask for a dance and have
some fun? This doesn't have to be a standoff
situation and these kids need to know it is OK to
like eachother and get over this generational rift.
Very greatful for this opportunity, Miigwech
for allowing me to express.
Very well put, I fully agree. I think this whole
ordeal is a serious wake up call to us parents
and educators. I talked before about detecting
smoke before the fire, and we as parents
need to bridge that communication gap you
spoke of.  I thought the "jamie Nabozny
Documentary" would have been a great
opportunity to sit down with our children and
school staff and discuss tolerance and the
value of diversity acceptance. However the
powers that be felt this documentary shed a
negative light on our school district and
refused to show this film, citing there would
be no educational value in showing this film.
Everybody makes mistakes, even the school
district. What a great opportunity lost, where
we could have discussed these issues and
the negative impact and the ramifications of
intolerance can generate.

unemployed? please, well the political change
put a stop to that. Also your article on the

Please list the articles in question. If you keep

a fight at the end of the school week. The

mid-week. Thus 3 fights within our normal

What would be another word we could use,

It was a hard month. We've all had them. My
beloved pet died, its the month my Sister
passed away, Santa Clause is strapped for
cash due to being blacklisted for having a big
mouth. I have been on the Casino hire list
going on four months now, which took me
almost four years to achieve this feat. I did get
a call for a Security position. I was very
excited, however our esteemed Secretary
Ford's son miraculously stole the position
out from under me. I say miraculous because
my name was actually on the hire list. The
whole point of the article was acceptance and

"biased" you blindly make this website. Look, if
this website is claimed to be for the people and
to let everyone know EVERYTHING start from the
top. Post everyones campaign letters, not just
your own. Post EVERYTHING that happens at a
council meeting, not just the stuff that you think
makes you look better! Grow up and start writing
something worthwhile. I suppose living off
unemployment there is nothing better to do than
assume things. Why dont you let the people
know what happened with Bad River
Construction. I have been wondering about that
for years. Or the faulty wiring that caused the
clinic to burn that was installed by a "radical."
Where did all the tools go? Most likely in the
deragon/leoso shed. You are just misleading
people into thinking what you or this website
thinks is the only thing that goes on around
here. Must be nice to afford internet and a
computer off of the working classes tax money!
Wow seriously take a breath. I can almost feel
your hysteria through the keyboard. First off,
thank you for allowing me the opportunity to
clear up the twists and turns in your words.

The meetings are from top to bottom. They
are written and summarized as the actual
events transpire. Anyone who has attended
these meetings and read the Rundowns
would know that. In fact I have about a years
worth of Council meeting recordings. I am
toying with the idea of realeasing them via
audio files and linking them in the media
section. This will enable our audience to listen
as they read along to the Rundowns.

As far as campaign letters,.. You're right, this
is a private website and my hard work goes
into this. Since I am running this year, I didn't
feel comfortable having other candidate's
literature on the website.  I've already
explained this. And realistically, I've had only
one candidate ask me to post their campaign
letter here.

You want to know what happened to the
Construction Company? You should ask
those that managed it for the two years after
my father retired. When my father retired, the
company was $180,000 to the good. Another
thing is zero money ever passed through his
hands. Anyone who works in Accounting
could tell you that. I also have no idea about
the whereabouts of any tools. The company
was still going 2 years after my father retired.
If the company had no tools, how could they
continue working for 2 more years if they had
no tools? Certainly if there was any whiff of
truth to what you're saying there should be
police reports, court records, inventory lists,
and audit reports which these things would
reflect. Come on buddy, you don't think that
with all the political bs. that had and is going
on, somebody wouldn't have jumped at an
opportunity like that? If there is any missing
tribal property then the police should be called
and an investigation should be started.

Now on to the clinic fire.. "The radical" who
installed some new wiring noticed the fuse
box was a mess and the wiring was a rookie
job. To save money the tribe's own peronnel
was used. "The radical" seen the problems
and the way the tribe's personnel installed the
clinic's wiring and refused to put his work in
with a mess like that. Therefore "the radical"
installed seperate new electrical equipment.
This was noted and documented. I think "the
radical" used the words "fire hazard" in his
documentation of the work done by the tribal
personnel. Your accusations are an outright
lie.

See there's the difference between us, I have
facts, documents, and files to back up and
support the things I say and write. The old
tactical way of fueling propaganda doesn't
work anymore. There is a new generation of
Braves that have access to information at
their fingertips that can and will make their
own decisions.

Maybe I should call CNN because the way
you've described the way America's
unemployment insurance works is news to
me. Seriously this is a stretch even for you. It
really doesn't sound like you fully understand
how unemployment works. Let me explain it
to you, only those that have worked recieve
benefits because they paid taxes out of their
paychecks. These benefits are there for
everyone who works, which is why they call it
insurance. You make it sound like I'm content
and lazily living off tax payer's money. By your
twist there are over 15 million unemployed
people lazily mooching from what they paid
into social security. Once again your
propaganda has failed.

Miigwetch old friend. You're right, talk is
cheap. For far too long we have put our
hopes into politicians. Bad River is sick of
politicians. Now the time has come where we
need warriors. Our People deserve
representatives who will wholeheartedly
represent their needs and promote a better
quality of life for our Nation.

You know where I stand...
I stand with the people who need more
employment opportunities, who need better
housing. Those who deserve better
healthcare, who need better education
opportunities for their children.

I stand with the people who will fight tooth &
claw, to protect our treaty rights & those who
would give their heart & soul to leave our
children with something better.

I stand with those who won't let mining ruin
our ecosystem & poison our homelands. I
stand with those who would answer ,"over
my dead body" , when they want to destroy
what so many of our People have already
given their lives to protect & preserve.

I stand with those who have empty pockets
with a heart full of dreams, because in our
hearts we know we can do better.

May 16 isn't too far away & April 16 is even
closer. We need to seriously consider the
choices we make, for they will seal our future.

I have learned a lot this past election. I spoke
to many, many people. I have heard their
concerns & needs..And to be quite honest,
we share a lot of the same concerns.

You can be assured, this cannon isn't all
bang. Everything I say, I wiil do. Every
question we have, I will ask.

I know I am young, but I have the education
and background, & possess a firm grasp of
our Nation's current affairs.

Besides, being the new guy isn't so bad, it
means I am unpolluted with the political
agendas & the "this side, that side game". I
don't give a damn about last names, I only
care about what is right for our people.

To all my off-res brothers & sisters, expect

Well thanks for the words of encouragement,

any ability to publicly speak. The majority of the
Council has refused to openly speak. After
they've been elected, they can't speak to the
Members or refuse to or claim they don't have
answers because they don't know anything.
They sit before the people speechless or afraid
to talk. We don't know if they are ignorant,
stupid or involved in a cover up. Members
deserve representation, respect and the truth
from elected officials. We haven't had that for
decades. Good luck in your efforts to make a
difference.

I had no problem obtaining my ballot packet.  It
arrived at my Arizona home about 7 days after I
sent the request.  I did have to include an
affidavit with my completed ballot so my vote
was not secret.  Good luck to you.

So, I am curious as to why Bad River Members
would feel the need to vote No to Adoption
requests. Clearly those of us who have put our
application in are not after that per cap check
every year because as everyone knows Bad
River Tribe does not offer one to their
members. Maybe, Just maybe we want to be
voted in so we can proudly say "We are
Bad River Chippewa" just as our Mothers
, Fathers, Grandmothers and Grandfathers
were. I was not born on the Reservation but my
Mother and Grandmother were and are cleary
on the census published on the peoples page.
If I am missing something please enlighten me.
5 Months ago the vote was Yes and this week
No. I just do not get it. Thank you and God Bless.

I am concerned with the rush to a proposed
Taconite mine higher in the Bad River/Superior
watershed basin.The new governor is
streamlining the application process and the
main stream media outlets are eagerly
forecasting financial relief from millions of
dollars being pumped into the state economy. It
is apparent that the big money has designs on
the minerals in your area.I am also confident if
they move forward they will also seek other
resources which the have previously
unsuccessfully attempted to mine.They also
want to limit liability on past, present and future
litigation of corporate malfeasance and
responsibility. It is easy to trace the path of the
river to see the areas that will bear the weight
of enhanced toxins.Walker and his government
have shown disregard for the needs and
wishes of the people and I am also confident he
will show the same disregard for the the Bad
River and Lake Superior.Iron mining will not
only create open pit mine's but will also destroy
ground water,fisheries and rice beds
downstream!

It's been a while since I have been on this site
so tonight I spent a couple of hours reading up
on the peoples page. There were several good
post about problems and concerns with issues
within our community, reviving our language,
people trying to find friends and family members
but I also read a lot of negative post. People
fighting, talking bad against each other and
family members. I cant speak on these negative
issues because I do not know the facts and I live
1500 miles away in Idaho. What I will say is, when
will this all stop? We are being our own worst
enemy. I say this not just of our own Tribe but
throughout Indian Country. We fight amongst
ourselves within our communities. We have lost
our teachings, our traditional values, our
traditional principles. It makes me sad to hear of
so much negativity going on back home. What
we are doing is holding ourselves back as a
people. It sounds like the time has come for us
as a people to find our way back to who we are.
Lets learn from our past, our culture,
ceremonies, teachings, traditions, and
LANGUAGE! When we learn these things we
learn our values, our principles. These things
will help our leaders and ourselves to remember
to live a life for the people not just for
ourselves. For the time I am living in Idaho
because of family and school, I live out here with
our Shoshoni brothers and sisters, I represent
our people of Bad River in many different circles
here in Shoshoni country. I walk with the
traditional folks of the Sundance, peyote, and
sweat circles, sitting with Shoshoni, Bannock,
Navajo and many other elders of many Tribes.
When the time is right I plan on returning home
but I ask myself "what I'm I going to return
to"? In closing, lets honor our ancestors
and ourselves.

members lost their  elected membership. As I
recall some  people where not legaly members
that sat on the adhoc committee so perhaps alot
of members are real not  just think of the money
we can save  back when we had a blood
quantum howha  lets appeal this in courts to
affirm our real rights as heirs  of unbroken lines
proff of birth record on all members must be
seen. not sworn in by  related parties. . think
about it. adopted ppl are in question of birth
