Look around our reservation. Our buildings are dilapidated, moldy and falling
apart. We have insufficient housing, high unemployment and little or no
economic development. Vendors refuse to make deliveries without payment.
Medical bills are in collections. The tribe is being sued. Where has our money
gone? How much have we expended on the Beloit Project? Why are we four
years behind in audits? Exactly how much are we indebted? Under what
authority allows the Council to mortgage tribal lands? Is education a priority? If
so, then why were education grant awards held until the end of semester,
creating a hardship for our students to stay in school? Do our elected officials
practice nepotism and patronage? I say indeed they do! It depends on your
family name and political ties to elected officials. There is a great fear among
our people. They fear loss of employment and opportunity; eviction from their
homes; loss of health services; loss of services rendered by tribal programs
and even police harassment. Is this the way it was meant to be? Is this how our
people should live? I say it is time to hold elected officials accountable for their
    actions!
