                                 A New Deal?
Thursday May 27, 2010 - The city of Beloit is abuzz with
anticipation and talks of a new three way deal which would
include the Ho-Chunk Nation as a partner in the proposed
Beloit Casino Project. This past Monday City Manager, Larry
Arft met with the Beloit City Council. During which, pre-
negotiation strategies were a topic of discussion. Arft went on
record and touched upon possible approachment strategies of
a new deal and what it might entail. Arft stated first and
foremost, some sort of written agreement would need to be
implemented. Arft offered a possible solution in this regard and
stated the current Inter-Governmental Agreement between the
city and the Bad River and St. Croix Tribes could simply be
“amended or modified to include the Ho-Chunk Nation.”
According to the Project Spokesman Joe Hunt, the city of Beloit
is just considering all options and formulating a planned course
of action should the three Tribes reach some sort of an
agreement. Beloit City Manager Arft stated although the city
has engaged in “intermittent, ongoing communication” with
each Tribe, the city has not been part of any ongoing
negotiations between the Tribes. Beloit Casino Project
Spokesman, Joe Hunt, stated although he is unaware of any
new paperwork or formal proceedings, “the Tribes remain
committed to the partnership they have in Beloit.”
