Walk The Line
Friday July 2, 2010 - Democracy is founded on a free ideology system where
people from all walks of life enjoy the undying freedom to express their own
varying opinions and principles. The Democracy equation is infallible, as it will
undoubtedly fail where no active thought resides. Recently you may have heard of
the new ‘Tea Bag’ movement that’s been slowly growing across America. Although
I personally am not ready to jump aboard any time soon, I fully respect the
movement’s concept, as I am a true believer and firm advocate of questioning our
government and its policies. It is common knowledge, the survival and success of
any movement depends on the firm basis of intent and factual substance.
Recently there have been weekly newsletters distributed anonymously
throughout our Community. Although I admire their motivation, the perverse
subject matter and strong overtones of hate contained in these newsletters
ultimately defeat this quality. These anonymous newsletters often times ‘hit below
the belt’ as they irresponsibly declare personal war (with not just our government
officials, but private citizens) and maliciously attack our Chairman and his family at
a very inappropriate and intimidating level. Personally, I even found myself to be
targeted under the anonymous author’s scrutiny in one of these ’hate letters’, as it
made off-the-wall mention of my devotion to an interracial marriage (of nearly
twelve years). One can only assume the author’s point is, I am not a racist. This
point is mind boggling, as the arrival of the twenty-first century brought forth some
big changes, as our Nation evolved and we proudly bared witness to the swearing
in of our first African-American President.
After reading these newsletters the reasoning as to why they remain unsigned
becomes evident. The
author’s underdeveloped writing is maliciously reckless and the incongruous
material is far from skeptical patriotism. The content of this publication holds no
political reverence and is quite possibly even borderline criminal. As webmaster for
a political news site, I understand and rightfully assume the responsibility that falls
on my shoulders. I execute extreme care in gathering the correct factual
information and every fact is double checked before I feel confident it is
acceptable for publishing.
I receive an enormous amount of information on almost a daily basis. Some
information I follow up on and report, while most of it is withheld until it is confirmed
or has been discredited. Of this information, I also receive some which is
impertinent and serves no face value to our Community (this information goes right
to the trash bin). I understand we cannot all agree on everything under the sun.
However, we all have the responsibility to express our points of argument with
civility and respect (especially if it is printed for mass viewing). As a political
activist, I do enjoy debating and hearing opposing opinions, as I treat each one
with value and an open mind, as long as its factually pertinent to the subject matter
at hand.
As a fellow ’journalist’, I strongly implore the anonymous author(s) to contribute
‘information’ that is applicable to our Community and base your ‘publications’ on
facts, otherwise refrain from your failed attempts at journalism altogether. While
you’re brewing in your own dissension and hate, you are embarrassing yourself
and not only are you doing a great disservice to our Nation, but also to the
previous administration you so ‘gallantly’ root for. If you feel that strongly about
certain aspects of our government and you can refrain from personal attacks, I
welcome you with an open platform to post your views.
