Police Chief Meets With Feds
Friday July 9, 2010 - This past Wednesday
Bad River Police Chief, Joe Szwarek, along with
six other tribal police chiefs, met with U.S.
Attorneys and (DOJ) agents involved in the
Native American Drug and Gang Task Force at
the Lac du Flambeau Reservation. Some of the
topics of discussion were; federal funding
concerns, gang activity, and combating a losing
war on prescription medication abuse. Tribal
officials and federal prosecutors are working
together in hopes to build a stronger centralized
network in efforts to deter criminal activities on
reservations throughout the state. Officials
identified some areas of weakness which
included, jurisdictional issues and a lacking of
shared information among agencies. U.S
Attorney, Jim Santelle, called the meeting ‘highly
educational’ and stated he looks forward to being
’part of our world.’
