We urge all Tribal Members to read the Beloit Casino Project proposal. Please pay attention to the Inter Governmental Agreement. After careful review of this agreement you will know why the Tribal Council does not want to inform the members of this project & the questionable agreements they have already made. Repeated requests for a full account of ALL expenditures on the Beloit Casino Project have been ignored. We are not opposed to off reservation casinos. We would embrace the opportunity of an off-reservation casino if it truly promoted tribal economic development & self-sufficiency. This project, as proposed guarantees revenue to the city of Beloit, Rock county & the State Of Wisconsin. Per the Inter Governmental Agreement, the tribes will build ancillary buildings for developer Kurt Carlson, on HIS land. The ancillary buildings include, but not limited to; a water park, hotel, restaurant & various eateries, a theater & an antique car museum. The tribes also agree to use Kurt Carlson's construction company. Remember, Kurt Carlson will own the ancillary buildings. NOT the Tribes. Adding insult to injury, the Tribes agree to pay the real estate taxes for Kurt Carlson. Its beyond belief that an Indian would agree to pay taxes & for a white man at that! The Beloit Casino Project proposal does NOT ensure that the TRIBE is the beneficiary of the gaming operation. Tribal officials entered into agreements that are detrimental to the Tribe. Media reports that numerous hearings were conducted in the Beloit area & over 6,000 people voted on the issue. Tribal members have yet to have any informational public meetings/hearings on the issue. Tribal officials have waived sovereign immunity. If the Tribe is unable to make the incredulous payments to the city of Beloit & Rock county, every red cent the Tribe currently has & every potential red cent the Tribe may generate, along with the land that they unlawfully encumbered, will be lost. Media reports that Tribal officials & Beloit officials met with the new Secretary of the Interior in effort to have the decision of denial reversed. We cannot emphasize enough that this Beloit Casino Project, as proposed, is NOT in the Tribe's best interest. PLEASE SEND A LETTER TO:
Mr. Ken Salazar U.S. Secretary of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs 1849 C Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20240
Inform this new administration of our serious concerns over this land to trust application. Our Tribal officials are unwilling to listen to us, hopefully we can send the message to Washington that we do not support any agreement that jeopardizes all our current assets & potential revenue & our tribal lands. When our Great Chiefs made agreements with the government, they considered the interests of the ENTIRE Tribe & the future generations. If this Beloit Casino Project becomes a reality, how can we say we are providing for our future generations when we are willing to gamble ALL Tribal assets? We have written the following letter in the link provided & any Tribal Member is welcome to print, sign, & send it to Washington. Even a postcard stating that you are a Bad River Tribal Member and you are opposed to the Beloit Casino Project would help! Letter to the Secretary of Interior
